70 year wait for Lympstone is over
Lympets first team come good after three score years and ten
Lympstone first team can celebrate their first championship since 1949. Their 3-0 win at home to Tedburn St Mary captured the Division Three crown and ended their wait for prize silverware last won before most of their current members were born.
The University took runners up after winning at Beer Res pushing Winchester down to third.
Dunkeswell Rovers have also had to wait 44 years for a title since they won Intermediate 1 East in 1975, and remarkably the team that came second that year were “Lympstone”. However the Dunks did not have to get changed into their kit this weekend as opponents Bravehearts were unable to field a side. A little sympathy for the Braves who were involved in a full-out cup final which went to penalties less than 24 hours earlier, so no surprise they failed to make the starting grid.
Elmore 3rds made sure of runners up in Division Eight with a 5-2 win at Lympstone Res with Topsham Res slipping back to third.
Todays matches brought the League season to an end although there are still four cup finals on offer next week.
