Cronies hopes crushed by Torridgeside
28 year wait for a Devon & Exeter finalist goes on
Cronies hopes of smashing a 28 year drought for a Devon & Exeter League side to reach the Devon Premier cup final were swept aside by SWPL Torridgeside in wednesdays semi final at Witheridge. Cronies suffered a 4-0 defeat, despite a gallant effort, but the North Devon side finishing was clinical.
The last D and E team to get to the final was Exeter St Thomas but their bid failed a 2-0 defeat against Newton Abbot Spurs.
Cronies were only one down at the break, but then conceded a second and after a rather fortunate cross cum shot third goal their incentive died and it was little surprise a fourth goal rounded off a solid performance from the SWPL team.
The last Devon & Exeter sides to capture the Devon Premier cup was Chelston in 1990 when they beat STC Paignton, and Newton St Cyres the year before winning against Upton Athletic.
