Goals by the bucketful on a sunny January saturday afternoon

A gigantic 300+ goals scored in league and cup. Well done everyone especially Division Three which gushed 55 goals from just seven matches.

The 52 League matches and two cupties fitted in between the rains produced an astounding total of 310 goals, that’s almost SIX per match. Ottery St Mary had the lions share with 15, and three other teams racked up double figures not least Newtown as they overran Clyst Valley in Premier 11-0. Ottery ladies scored 14 goals in their morning Saturday match but the mens team went one better as they routed poor Axmouth United 15-0.

Other highlights saw Exwick Villa regain top spot in Premier winning 4-2 against Exmouth Town but the seasiders made them work harder than expected.

Okehampton are off the basement rung, Topsham taking their place after their 2-0 loss at Simmons Park. Both teams had a man red-carded.

Division One leaders Kentisbeare were held to a 1-1 draw by Bampton despite scoring in the first minute. The ponies responded strongly and felt they did enough to tip the result their way.

In Division Two the top pair Whipton & Pinhoe and Royal Oak both chalked up double figures without conceding.

With Ottery on a cricket score Division Three clocked up a huge 57 goals despite three teams failing to get any at all.

Elmore won the top game in Division Four at Alphington 2-0, but that contrasted with the other five matches where yet more big victories were racked up.

The Div 5 leaders Exmouth Spartans stretched their winning run to six, but Bravehearts almost stopped it losing just 3-2.

Div 6 leaders Kentisbeare hit seven without reply at Lapford, but what a match at Seaton where the home side led 4-1 at the break, then went 6-5 down before Withy gave away a penalty and it finished 6-6.

Cowick Barton won the top game in Division Seven against Broadclyst 4-3, and Dawlish found their winning touch again in Div 8 as they beat Tedburn St Mary 3-0.

Cup wins for Bow and East Budleigh Res on a memorable day.
