Eagles stage magnificent comeback to win Intermediate cup final
County final at Coach Road thursday produces a humdinger
Elmore Reserves staged a remarkable comeback at Coach Road to win the A & S Paving Devon Intermediate cup on Thursday. Three down at halftime to the Black Swans from Dawlish the eagles clawed their way back to level things up then snatched victory with a twice taken penalty. Overall the eagles had the edge, but the Swans played a big part in what was a great advert for the D & E league.
The eagles second team have never won the Intermediate cup before but they have won the Devon Senior cup way back in 1977.
Elmore first team won the Intermediate cup (or the Devon Junior cup as it was then) back in 1961, when they beat Portals from Plymouth 6-3.
Some other facts:
This was the first final between two teams from the Devon & Exeter League for some 60 years. The last time in 1968 was when Willeys Social Club from Exeter beat Exbourne 2-1 at St James Park.
The first ever winners of this cup were Plymouth Argyle Reserves in 1892 who defeated Albany from Plymouth 2-1
