Villa take the Premier crown by a lick of paint

Whipton & Pinhoe and Cowick Barton also crowned champions

An elated Exwick Villa are deserved Premier champions for the first time, but was it close. The Villa were held to a goalless draw at a packed Furzebrake by Beer Albion, while rivals Newtown were going through a similar trial at Cronies Topsham Town base where it also ended 0-0, and few would have bet on a final day with no goals. However Villa’s far superior goal difference over the season proved decisive and left Newtown again having to settle for runners up. Cronies come third as a result, but what a dramatic end to the season.

Bampton are assured of a top three finish in Division One after lashing Sidmouth Town 6-0, and if they win their last match against the University on Monday will be runners up behind champions Lapford.

Whipton & Pinhoe made sure of the Division Two crown with a confident 6-2 victory at Bow AAC, and Thorverton are runners up after their 5-2 win at Uplowman, who dropped back into the bottom three with Halwill clambering out of danger.

Lympstone stunned Ottery St Mary 4-0 in the huge Division Three clash to go second behind leaders Winchester, and if they win one of their last two matches will be champions. Ottery could now even miss out on a top three slot if the University can win and draw one of their last three outings.

Westexe Park Rangers have blown their chance of the Division Five crown after losing 6-1 at Upottery, but they are assured of a top three finish. Leaders Exmouth Spartans sit with a five point cushion but their last game is against third place Dunkeswell Rovers next Wednesday who must win that and their two other matches to snatch the title.

Cowick Barton are Division Seven champions. The newcomers won 5-1 at second place East Budleigh.

Cranbrook beat Kentisbeare 2-0 to reach the Football Express cup semi finals and will face Central next Thursday for the chance to meet Kentisbeare in the final.
