Alphas and the Valley fly the County cup flag into round 2
County cup round up Saturday September 9
Mixed fortunes as always for our teams in County cups but Alphington and Clyst Valley remain to carry the League banner into Round 2 of the Sportslighting Devon Premier cup when the draw is made on monday. The Alphas made short work of Shamwickshire winning 6-0, while the Valley in South Devon were 3-1 winners at Buckfastleigh.
Winkleigh hopes of a first ever Premier cup victory were scuttled 3-0 at The Windmill in Plymouth, Lapford performed well but lost 4-0 to a very talented Exeter University side, while Okehampton Res were unable to emulate their first team heroics and were beaten 4-1 by Braunton at Simmons Park.
Crediton 2nds were no match for Newtown from the Devon League who racked up a 5-0 scoreline at Lords meadow.
No doubt about the result of the day in the Devon Senior Cup 1st round ties as AFC Morchard Bishop demolished Cullompton Res 9-0. Elsewhere it was much closer Exmouth Spartans getting through 4-3 on pens at Elmore after it finished 1-1, and Alphington Res 5-4 on pens at Fremington following a 3-3 draw.
Teignmouth Res beat neighbours but different league Buckfastleigh Res 3-1, Feniton Res saw off Shebbear 3-1 as well, but Sidmouth 3rds dipped to a 4-3 defeat at home to Totness & Dartington.
Newly formed Railway Club FC made a powerful start to their cup history as they routed Phoenix from Plymouth 8-0 in the A & S Paving Devon Intermediate cup.
Tedburn St Mary returned from Georgeham & Croyde with a 7-2 success, but Millwey Rise went under 5-1 at South Brent, and South Zeal United lost 2-0 at home to the Teign Village after they returned to the SDL following their one season with us.
Priory were handed a walkover into the next round as their hosts Bideford AFC forfieted the tie.
