ALPHAS GIVEN A FRIGHT BY UPOTTERY BUT GET THEIR CUP AND LEAGUE DOUBLE
BICKLEIGH BUZZARDS SHOT DOWN BY BOVEY TRACEY
Alphington acheived their first ever major League and cup double when they won the East Devon Senior cup today (saturday May 13) but they were given a massive fright by Division One opponents Upottery. The Premier champions looked well set in the second half at 2-0 but a penalty and then a late equaliser took the final at Minster Park brought the score back to 2-2 and then penalties. Alphington then held their nerve to win the shoot out 4-2 and lift a trophy they have won just once before in 1980, but a double blow for Upottery who were also last seasons beaten finalists.
Meanwhile down at Coach Road Newton Abbot, Bickleigh Buzzards hopes of a first ever County cup in their first ever final were blown apart by a very skilful Bovey Tracey Reserves from the South Devon League. Bickleigh went down 4-1 and to be fair were always chasing the final once they fell behind. The cup was also a first County win for Bovey who keep the ttrophy in South Devon having beeen won by Ivybridge a year ago.
