Both Sandford matches respectfully called off this weekend
Club in mourning for loss of popular young player
Both Sandford matches have been called off this weekend after the tragic loss of 22 year old Ben Harris one of their young stars. Ben has been with the club since a 16 year old, and his loss is devastating to the Sandford club and of course his family and condolences go out to all from everyone at the Devon & Exeter Football League.
The Sandford club regarded Ben as a wonderful lad, a very good midfield player with a huge personality.
Ben came through the youth club ranks at nearby Crediton United but the club still regard him as a young player who they gave a chance at just 16, and he become one of the youngest players to play for Sandford first team at that point.
Statement sent to all clubs by League secretary Neil Anthony
Hi everyone
I am sad to report that Sandford FC have sadly reported the death of one of their young players earlier this week and therefore the Devon and Exeter Football League have agreed to their request to postpone both of their fixtures for this coming week-end.
We send our condolences to the lads’ family and all at Sandford FC.
Regards
NEIL ANTHONY, General Secretary DEFL
