Cronies pay the penalty
Devon County Premier final within touching distance for Cronies but snatched away
Cronies football club were hoping to become the first Devon & Exeter League side to reach the Throgmorton Devon Premier cup final for 27 years but had their hopes crushed in a penalty shoot out. Cronies squared up against Mount Gould at Stoke Gabriel tonight Wednesday 11 March and led for over an hour but the Plymouth side broke away and equalised with a penalty, and then won the ensuing penalty shoot-out 4-3. It was a cruel ending for Cronies just over a year after they defeated the Plymouth side 1-0 in last seasons quarter finals.
The last D & E team to get to the final was Exeter Civil Service in 1993 when they were beaten 2-0 by the Devon & Cornwall Police.
Mount Gould will have to wait a week to learn their opponents when Bampton face Devon League Exeter University next wednesday at Witheridge.
