County cup holders runneth out

Exeter University 3rds thrown out, Lympstone back in

The Devon Senior cup holders Exeter University 3rds have been ejected from this seasons competition. The college defeated Lympstone 2-0 in the second round on December 9 following their 6-1 victory away to Ilfracombe Town Res in November. However following protests, and then research by the cups committee, has indicated they were at fault in the earlier tie, so both beaten teams Ilfracombe and Lympstone have been re-instated.

The Lympets will now make the trip to North Devon this coming saturday to try and book a quarter final slot against Central FC due to take place in early February.

College joint secretary Harry Moreton says the players are devastated at the decision, especially as they were confident of retaining the trophy, but they have to accept their fate.

The League still have Halwill and Hatherleigh Town in with a shout for a semi final slot, so hopes remain high that the Senior cup will be retained by a Devon & Exeter League side.ounty
