Dons and Fenny cup winners

Three more finals sorted

Starcross Dons captured the Football Express Cup with a 1-0 win against Thorverton Res, but the mid Devon side were left feeling short-changed. The only goal midway through the second half was awarded after the linesman claimed a clearance which rebouned off the crossbar had gone over the line. The thors protests were in vain but overall they had far less of the final at Minster Park. Both teams were without key players but both did well to entertain a well supported final. A Starcross named team are the first to win the trophy for 60 years, although Langdon were winners eight years ago, while Thorverton Res last won the cup 12 years ago.

Fenitons Development team won the League Two cup at Topsham but the final went to penalties after a goalless battle against Whipton & Pinhoe Res. Both teams missed penalties in the shoot out but Fenny eventually won the spotkick showdown 9-8.

Kingsteignton Athletic won the Devon Senior cup with a 3-0 victory against Chudleigh Athletic at Coach Road.  Kingsteignton have had to wait 57 years to win the trophy for the first time after losing to Portals Athletic in the 1965 final, but for Chudleigh this was a first ever County Senior final. Although the two finalists are recognised as South Devon teams both clubs the Kings especially, and Chudleigh, have history in the Devon & Exeter League, older supporters may recall, hence the reason for a mention here.
