Double blow for students
Just two matches on the opening programme for 2022
The bad weather launched a possible climate change reminder on the first saturday of the League programe for 2022 with just two matches being played. Alphington with the advantage of switching to the 3G hub at Exwick took on the University, ironically their landlords. The Alphas won 2-0 which reduced the Division One leadership of Crediton United to six points and keeps the title race well alive.
The only other match played was at Wonford in Division Eight which saw the Exeter Panthers win 3-1 against the University. Goalscorers for the Panthers were Nathan Hopkins with a brace and Louis Dally.
The win was also a pick me up for the Panthers club whose former player 18 year old Harvey McWilliams, who was playing professionally at Darlington, had lost his life. Harvey who was a Sunderland supporter was regarded as a very talented player and the Joma Devon & Exeter League would like to take this opportunity to convey their best wishes and condolences to the club and Harveys family on their loss.
