DUNKS SHOCK UPOTTERY

Latest news on all the cup competitions.

With the League programme now complete attention is switching to the last week of the season and a glut of local cup finals on offer.

On thursday night Axminster Town, the first ever winners of the Morrison Bell cup in 1920, sent Beer Albion tumbling out of the competition on penalties after the pair had ended their clash at 0-0. The tigers won the shoot out 5-4 and will now face Sidmouth Town in the final this coming week.

However the eye catching result was at Dunkeswell where the Rovers shocked Premier division Upottery 6-2 in their Grandisson cup quarter final. Three goals in a purple second half spell saw the Dunks at 4-1 after the first half ended 1-1, and they never looked like losing. Rovers now face another Premier team Sidmouth Town Res at Ottery on monday night for the right to take on Budleigh Salterton Res also this coming week.

Otterton are through to the final of the Golesworthy Cup after they won their semi final against Lympstone Res 5-2 and they will now meet Upottery Res the current holders. Its over a century since the rollers last won the trophy so they have a massive incentive to breach that gap.

Newtown Res have been ruled out of the East Devon Senior cup after their penalty shoot out victory over Crediton Res recently, so Crediton have been re-instated and they now host Kentisbeare on tuesday evening at Washbrook meadows. The winners will then play Upottery later this coming week. Details to follow.

Also on tuesday evening is the semi final of the Bill Slee cup with Farway United up against Exmouth Spartans. Farway have been awarded their match after their quarter final against Bravehearts was abandoned earlier this month. The winners will now meet the University 4ths who have been waiting for some time to know their opponents.
