FIRST EVER WIN FOR CITY RAIDERS THIRD XI
Intermediate round up Saturday October 28
Just two matches played in Division Five but it gave St Martins Res the chance to cut some of the 15 points trail left by leaders Starcross Dons in a hugely entertaining 6-5 victory at Exeter University 7ths.
The other match played also produced eleven goals with Millwey Rise getting the better of Exeter United 7-4, the Axminster teams first win.
The Dons were due to face the Railway FC in the Football Express Cup seeking a place in the quarter finals but referee Willer chose to postpone the tie at the last minute. I dont blame him as my self and one of our league vice chairmen were prospective supporters at Starcross Sports field but were quite happy not to have to get out of the car as the heavens opened yet again.
Weather wreaked havoc in Division Six with four of the five matches called off but the one that did survive saw Exeter Royals win the KGV battle with neighbours Beacon Knights 4-3 to register their first win of the season and climb off the bottom ladder.
Another big derby in Division Seven where leaders Uplowman Athletic swamped ground sharing home side Phoenix United 10-0. That kept them on point clear of North Tawton who had a much harder game at home to Westexe Park Rangers Res but edged it 3-2.
South Zeal United Res won their basement duel at Tedburn St Mary Res 6-0, while the University 8ths were 5-0 winners at Newton St Cyres Res to move into the top half of the table.
Division Eight had two matches scheduled but the only one to see action was at Millwey Rise Res where they were beaten 3-2 by the City Raiders 3rds who were able to celebrate their first league victory ever.
The two Geary cup ties due to take place at Farway and Heavitree were both victims of the weather, but the Devon Intermediate cup tie between Cheriton Fitzpaine Res and Alphington 3rds saw the visitors get through 3-2.
