ITS OVER, CUPS & MEDALS ALL HANDED OUT AT TOPSHAM
PRESENTATION NIGHT BRINGS DOWN CURTAIN ON LEAGUE SCENE
The Stitch2Print DEVON & EXETER LEAGUE held its Presentation night on friday evening at Topsham Towns Coronation fields to bring the curtain down on the League season. Most clubs were there too accept their trophies and medals followed by a buffet for all to enjoy.
The ritual had to be changed slightly with Alphington getting their award first because it was their presentation night too but that did not detract from the event. As always the League sponsors Stitch2Print were there to add to the occasion and a big thankyou to former Cheltenham, Exmouth Town and Exeter City keeper Mike Barrett who runs Stitch2Print for adding his personal touch to the occasion.
On the playing scene the last few League matches were completed this week and the most compelling result was in Division One where Newton St Cyres came back from two goals down to beat Exeter University 3-2 just a few days after the pair met in the Devon Senior Cup final. The result was of Houdini class for the Cyres who jumped three places from the bottom rung to escape relegation. Some achievment.
Locally just one more cup final to complete this coming wednesday when Axmouth United get the chance on their own ground to win the Golesworthy cup against Upottery Res. Both teams have won the trophy once before, currently held by Dunkeswell Rovers, Upottery Res winners in 2018 with Axmouth winning in 2014.
