Just a handful of matches played this weekend

Bad weather almost clears the decks

The weather almost brought the Devon & Exeter League programme to a standstill at the weekend with just five matches in three divisions saving the day.

On friday evening there was a big local derby at Budleigh Salterton where they won their Division Four clash against East Budleigh 5-1. The visitors scored first through Owen Corrick, but the robins levelled by the break and dominated the second half. Jack Hocking 2, Will White, Matt Lidstone and Jack Manning with the Budleigh goals.

Then on saturday just one match played in Premier where Clyst Valley were able to get their clash against Crediton United resolved with a 1-1 draw, and some good groundsmanship. This was the first share for the Valley at home this season but a big point for Kirton who are hoping to get back into the top half of the table.

Divisions One, Two and Three were completely wiped off the programme but in Division Four they had the luxury of two matches completed. Initially an almost mud free Cowick Barton defied the elements and saw St Thomas Social Club overcome a battling Culm United 3-0 until the rains came down late in the day.
In the other game at Uplyme, the hosts were 4-1 ahead against the league leaders Exeter University but the college fitness finally told and they managed to claw back the deficit for a priceless point. Uplyme were a shade peeved not to get a late penalty, but a huge result all the same.

That left just the Division Five game at Minster Park where St Martins had too much in the bag for Millwey Rise. Ben Hunt, Tom Aldrridge, Ben Smith and Dan Heagney with a goal apiece as Saints clocked up a 4-0 win.

Divisions Six, Seven and Eight saw no action at all, but midweek matches now kick in so weather permitting there should be a lively end to the season.
