More crowns decided

Lapford, Alphas, Tins, Awls and Whipton/Pinhoe Res on cloud nine

An elated Lapford reclaimed the Premier title this week when they ran out 4-1 winners at Thorverton their only challengers in front of a 200 crowd and they still have a game in hand. The viilage side have been been invincible this season and can rightly boast as the Devon & Exeter League team of the season. They still have a chance of the double in the East Devon Senior cup, which will go some way to compensate for their Devon County cup disappointment but Lapford are without doubt out on their own. Interesting semi final with Lapford paired against Alphington who on thursday were crowned Division 1 champions after Crediton United were checked by a 2-2 draw with Wellington. In fairness Crediton would have needed a massive win to deny the Alphas which was quite unlikely. The tangerines came from two down to earn a point but they in turn needed a win which would have earned them third place and they may yet slip back to fifth if Topsham who won 3-1 at the University on monday complete the double against the college on saturday.

Teignmouth will claim the Division Two title once the league rubber-stamp the points they will be awarded for the failure of Chagford to field a side at Teignmouth on Bank holiday monday. Winkleigh will finish as runners up but Beer currently in third place need Newton St Cyres to lose at Exmouth Spartans on saturday to stay finish third.

The other highlights this week were Awliscombe United reaching the Bill Slee cup final for the first time ever, thanks to a 3-1 win at home to South Zeal United.

Also Whipton & Pinhoe 2nds getting to the final of the League Two cup tournament with a 4-3 pens victory after a 1-1 draw against their first team. Expect the bragging rights to go on for some time.
