RAILWAY FC ON THE BRINK OF CUP GLORY

A & S DEVON INTERMEDIATE CUP FINAL SATURDAY MAY 11

Railway FC will carry the Devon & Exeter League banner by themselves into saturdays 123rd A & S Devon Intermediate Cup final when they face Watcombe Wanderers Res at Newton Abbot KO 2pm. The newly crowned Division Six champions operating in their first season could not be more excited than to be running out at Coach Road Devon FAs HQ against the South Devon League Division Three leaders and probable champions.
Railway who normally play at Cowick Barton have progressed through six rounds scoring 23 goals and conceding just four on their way to the final. Their opponents Watcombe have played one round less and were taken to penalties twice, but still look a formidable outfit.
History shows that neither side has ever won the County cup before although a team called Watcombe Villa won it in 1968.
It has been three years since the Intermediate cup was won by a D & E side (Witheridge Res) so the League are fully behind the Railmen.

LEAGUE PROSPECTS

Meanwhile although six Divisions have now seen their champions decided, the only other championship that can be resolved on saturday is Division One. A University 3rds victory at Bow AAC would bring the students the title, with current leaders St Martins having to settle for runners up. Defeat would still leave the college with a game in hand, at home to Hatherleigh on tuesday.

Three teams still have their eyes set on the Division Three crown, and all three are in action. Leaders Central are at Seaton Town, second place on goal difference Exeter University 4ths are at home to Farway Unived, while Westexe Rovers with a match in hand are at Exmouth Spartans. Could be some finish here.

That leaves the Division Five crown with St Martins Res needing to win at Upottery Res on tuesday, and hoping that long time current leaders Starcross Dons who have a far better goal differrence come unstuck at home to Tops United a week later.
