UNI DO THE LEAGUE PROUD AS THEY LIFT SENIOR CUP
Hugely entertaning and glamorous final
EXETER UNIVERSITY 3RDS did the League proud as they lifted the Devon Senior Cup with a 3-0 win against fellow Division One side NEWTON ST CYRES. The college left it until the second half of a tense final to take the lead with a penalty, but then added two more outstanding goals to capture the trophy. Cyres had their moments but generally did not quite have the ammunition to trouble the students.
Cyres resisted well but have to pick themselves up quickly as they need to beat the University this week in their last match to avoid possible relegation.
Todays final was highlighted at the interval by the University cheerleaders team who delighted a good crowd with their acrobatics, and there cannot have been many County finals previously which have displayed this level of glamour.
Elsewhere The Heart of Oak won the Football Express cup with a narrow 3-2 victory against St Martins Res at Topsham.
Teignmouth Res won 3-1 at home to Newtown Res to climb into fifth place in Division One and overtake the University 3rds who could regain that again if they beat Newton St Cyres, so much to play for still.
Seaton Town won 4-3 at Bravehearts which guaranteed them runners up spot in Division Three on goal difference.
