Witheridge first time Intermediate cup winners

Withy blaze to cup success in the sunshine at Coach Road

Witheridge captured the A & S Devon Intermediate cup for the first time ever thanks to a superb late winner by Dan Koita. The goal earned the North Devon side a 2-1 victory against Brixham Town of the South Devon League just as a penalty shoot out loomed in the blazing sunshine at Newton Abbot.

Withy had taken the lead after half an hour through Joe Southcott, but minutes before the break Harry Chastney equalised. Play swung from end to end in the second half, but Koita broke away to net the decider.

Veteran Anthony Vigus was awarded man of the match. The final was the 120th in County Intermediate history and the first Saturday competition final appearance for the winners. Brixham won the trophy in 1991 and were beaten finalists a year earlier losing to Cheriton Fitzpaine.
