BIGGEST SATURDAY OF THE SEASON WITH COUNTY CUPS DOMINATING

Three University wins on the road featured in midweek in Division One at Elmore, Division Three at Okehampton and Division 6 Webb at Dawlish but coming up this weekend is the biggest Saturday of the season. This is the first rounds of all the Devon County cups with some teams travelling to places they have never adventured to before and those with home advantage with visitors they may never have met before.

Top of the charts is the Devon Premier cup with five of the sixteen ties involving our teams. Leading the way are Upottery who welcome Bradworthy last seasons Devon Senior cup winners and Westexe Park Rangers on their debut away at Kingsteignton Athletic of the South Devon League.  St Martins have Newton Abbot 66 as their guests, East Budleigh make the long trek north to take on Bideford Res, and Crediton United Res are at Ilsington Villas.

It is now three years since Exeter University 3rds won the Devon Senior cup and they were our last winners in this competition, but this season the college have no teams in either this cup or the Intermediate cup. However Friday sees the competition under way when Elmore Res are up against Newton St Cyres two clubs who have both won the trophy before, then on Saturday a further 13 ties for our teams seeking a place in the last 32. Of the teams involved this season Kentisbeare were the last winners some 21 years ago, and their first hurdle is down at the Withycombe Archery club to take on Ex Dons who are three divisions below their visitors so seeking an upset.

Exmouth Albion begin the defence of the Devon Intermediate cup at home to Cranbrook United but beaten finalists Millwey Rise who won their first round tie 3-0 last month and were due to face Chagford have now withdrawn.
So 20 of the 28 second round ties taking place this Saturday involve Devon & Exeter League teams hoping to join both Chagford and Central Res who are already through after knocking out Topsham Town.

The County cups have considerably reduced the League programme but there are still 16 league matches being played four of which are in Premier.
