PHEW ITS OVER UPOTTERY ARE PREMIER CHAMPIONS FOR FIRST TIME EVER
ALL THE PREMIER ACTION SATURDAY MAY 2
The final whistle has blown, the drama ended and an ecstatic Upottery have done it! Upottery hearts have started beating again, breathing is easier, the tears flowing, and that is just the management team! On the pitch on 2 May 2026 the East Devon village side had captured the Premier Division crown, the Leagues major trophy for the first time ever, following their nerve-racking 2-2 draw at Sidmouth Town. At one point Upottery hopes of making it happen looked well gone after the Vikings went into a 2-0 lead with goals from Louis Adey and Charlie Roberts, but a change of ends at the break and then replies from Owen McCreadie-Taylor and Dan Stapleton wiped off the deficit. Encouraged at every step referee Burrough eventually blew the final whistle and Manstone Lane was electrified. As for Sidmouth the story has yet to be completed but on the day they played their part in the Upottery triumph and were gracious about their opponents historic achievement. Overall, job done for Upottery, top marks for Sidmouth and it has to be said, and loudly football, on the pitch and so importantly on the day was also the winner.
Elsewhere in Premier it is looking like Wellington may have done enough to finish as runners up for the second season in a row. The Somerset team who are a credit to our league won 4-1 at the University goals coming from Beatty, Hillier, Bryant and a Conway penalty and keeper Poulsom getting their man of the match reward. The Uni still have half a dozen matches to finish the season and could yet climb into the top half.
Winkleigh won the battle for a possible third place with Lyme Regis 2-1, Symonds with the visitors goal, but quite a few ifs and buts still for the Winks.
Crediton United in their last home outing hit Ottery St Mary for six without reply, the Otters season now ended, but in safety. Scorers for Crediton were Garnsworthy and Aldridge with doubles, Voaden and Leach with singles and just two matches remaining to maybe clamber a littler higher in mid table.
