VIKINGS OFF TO A FLYER BUT TOUGH OPENER FOR SOUTH ZEAL
SATURDAYS ROUND UP AND LOOK AHEAD
South Zeal United will not forget their first ever Premier division match, although they might like to, after crashing 8-1 to visiting Sidmouth Town Res. A hard lesson for Zeal at the Rec but maybe things can only get better. Good opener for the Vikings who may well be in the running if this result is anything to go by. Drew Cull 2, Hughes 2, Roberts, Reed, Ait Ida and Adey scoring for Sidmouth who picked Rogers their man of the match.
Defeat also for first time Premier starters Westexe Park Rangers 2-1 at Ottery St Mary Res, but a lot closer with the Otters getting the winner late on. Perrott with the Rangers consolation.
Wellington Res off to a flyer at Crediton Res where they won 4-0, goals shared by Bryant, Barrett, Pengelly and a Nott penalty, and East Budleigh opening with a 3-1 success at Lyme Regis but a tense game until the visitors made sure. Loader-Moulland with the Fort Davey goal.
East Budleigh have a derby against Sidmouth on Wednesday, while Lyme with a short trek to Colyton. St Martins will start their campaign at Minster Park against Crediton, and the champions Upottery have their down river neighbours Ottery St Mary at the Glebe.
Division One also kicks off on Wednesday when Teignmouth Res have their biggest local derby against Dawlish United.
More division One matches and derby clashes on Thursday with Kentisbeare opening up against Elmore, and Upottery Res hosting Axminster Town Res.
On Friday Heavitree United open the Division Two season against city rivals Royal Oak, and first ever matches in the two differently named Division Six sections. Axminster and Uplyme in Brown, Elmore and Hemyock in Webb.
