FUNNY OLD GAME SAID GREAVSEY CERTAINL AT PREMIER LEVEL
Jimmy Greaves famous comment “football is a funny old game” was never truer than the weekend with several eye popping results. Last week Dawlish United were knocked out of the Devon Senior cup by Upottery Res, this Saturday switching to the East Devon Senior cup Dawlish took out Premier division side St Martins in a rip roaring contest at Minster Park 2-0, goals coming from Moyse and Wills.
Over to Upottery where the Premier champions hosted and were expected to see off first division Central. Not so as the city team came back from 3-1 down to level at 3-3, Dowdall getting two of the goals and then won the penalty shoot out 3-1.
A little more normality at Beer Albion where the fishermen blew Kentisbeare away 7-0, Feniton edged out Alphington 3-2, Cram and Scott-Gibbs netting for the Alphas team, McNamara their man of the match.
Completing the ties Tedburn St Mary won 2-1 against Elmore with Mathias and Cochrane scoring.
Of the four Premier matches taking place only East Budleigh won on their home patch 2-1 against Ottery St Mary, but the top effort must go to Lyme Regis over at Crediton United where they won 4-1. A Symonds hat-trick and Mclean did for the Kirton side, Bamford picking up Lyme’s man of the match shout.
An Evett hat-trick for Wellington completed the double down at Colyton all three goals coming in the first half, but Tom Olive stood out for the home side.
South Zeal United beaten 3-1 by the University whose man of the match Brunelli was also among the goals Sheridan with the other two.
